ਜਸਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਾਨਵਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਵਲ "ਸੂਰਮੇ" ਉਹਨਾਂ ਲੜਾਕੂ ਜਿੰਦਾਵਾਦੀ ਅੰਦਰੂਨੀ ਕਰਕਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਸਥਿਤੀ, ਸੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਲਈ ਖੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਨਾਵਲ ਇਕ ਸਧਾਰਣ ਯੋਧੇ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਅਣਜਾਣ ਹੀਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵੰਧੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੜਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਦੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਲੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੇ ਪੰਨਿਆਂ 'ਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਖੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ।
